Interview with Liz

I have been asking people I encounter daily how they feel about eco-friendly fashion and if they even think about it at all. I have come across a lot of people who say that if they knew companies were producing environmentally friendly lines they would for sure be more inclined to shop at those places more often than others. However, once I list some stores that I have recently learned have such lines, the same people are stunned. What is interesting to me is that until I did research, I didn’t know some of these stores had lines that were environmentally friendly either. That led me to believe that if these lines and advancements were advertised more, it may be more common for people. Which is what a lot of the people I have been asking said as well.

I recently interviewed one of my bosses about her fashion sense and interest in any such eco-friendly fashion. My boss is young and from what I can tell by our daily communication, very hip (if you will). We often talk about new shoes or articles of clothing we have purchased, deals that we noticed, and all of the latest news and gossip online. When asked if my boss actually knew of any such lines or products, she was able to list a few. Some things she was aware of included H&M’s Conscious Collection, Eileen Fishers sustainable fabrics, and LOLI Skin Care products.

The next thing I asked was what she would actually be looking for in an eco-friendly product or clothing line. Not knowing all of the basics behind actually producing such products, she came up with natural ingredients, possibly sustainable production of clothing, and nothing that can potentially hurt the environment more. I think that if people took the opportunity to think about these things, their list would probably be similar.

Lastly, my boss concluded that although she does not think about sustainability on a daily basis and what the effect of some of things she uses or wears may have on the environment, she does care about the environment and if she was exposed to such products more often, she would do what she could to help make a change.
